Another reason to homebirth
Woman goes into the hospital to give birth, goes home a quadruple amputee.
“ Claudia Mejia gave birth eight and a half months ago at Orlando Regional South Seminole. She was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando where her arms and legs were amputated. She was told she had streptococcus, a flesh eating bacteria, and toxic shock syndrome, but no further explanation was given.
The hospital, in a letter, wrote that if she wanted to find out exactly what happened, she would have to sue them.”
So, to add insult to injury, the gal in the next room could have flesh-eating bacteria gobbling away at her, the nurse forget to wash her hands between patients, and the little boogers are eating your arms and legs for lunch.
And the hospital doesn’t feel they owe you an explanation.

That is reason enough for me to never want to go to the hospital for a natural physiological process like childbirth… or unless I am very ill indeed.
How incredibly scary that she is not even given the reasons for this tragedy!

This story is so frightening- I have heard another home birth mom say “people are always saying you are so brave to have your babies at home and she always says back I think you are brave to have them in a hospital”
So true

I think that is ne of the most horrible things I have ever heard. I hope she sues the pants off that hospital and that the people responsibles are held accountable and lose their licenses, medical certifications, etc. I am 9 mos. pregnant right now and I can’t imagine never holding this little girl that I’ve been waiting so long to meet in my arms, or never running around with my other two children outside. I feel so bad for this lady I hope she gets justice.
